Oh What a Week

Mike and I were the speakers in church today.  Are Mormons the only ones who have their congregation members give the sermon each week?  That probably would be weird, but kind of nice for a person-not-of-our-faith to experience.  I’m glad I won’t have to do that for a few more months at least!  I read my favorite faith promoting story about THE FILE ROOM and talked a bit about food storage.  I love those things!

On Sat. I’m hosting a Grocery Smarts class to teach people how to use a free website  to help them buy groceries at the lowest price possible!  I love this kind of stuff.  And I’ve had a few people already RSVP which really settles my nerves as to whether people will show up or not.  Why would you not show up?  You learn how to shop smarter and save money!

My mom is making the boys matching St. Patty’s Day ties and Hannah will have a matching St. Patty’s Day dress made from the same material.  I’m excited that she’s excited to do those kind of projects, because I’m just so not in the mood.  I did however finally finish the rag quilt I’ve been working on for 3 years!  It’s washed and delivered to my sis-in-law with a note stating: Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas for the rest of your life!  So glad that big ole pile is out of my closet.

Oh, got diapers B1G1 Free yesterday at Walgreens!  Can I even write a post, have a regular conversation, speak to a stranger without mentioning shopping and getting a good deal?  I’ll get back to you on that question once I finish my shopping trip =o)

We need to do our taxes still!  Pretty sure we’ll owe money, since we prefer to have money collect interest in our bank acct every year rather than someone else’s, but maybe just maybe this will be the year we get a nice hefty check from jolly ole Uncle Sam!  I’m pretty sure I’m dreaming, but it’s a good dream at least.

I need to collect moving boxes this week.  There’s a chance we will be moving an entire house full of furniture/ belongings out this weekend and it falls on us to do it.  We are not moving, someone else already has and left everything behind.  Packing up someone else’s treasures actually sounds like fun to me except that we can’t have any of their stuff.  So basically we’re the free packers and movers.  We should be really good at this by now!

Hannah Bear is scooting.  Not crawling or pushing up off her stomach, but sitting (you have to sit her up) and stretching out and somehow moving across the room.  She really is such a good baby.  I’ve decided that babies at 7 and 8 months are finally wonderful and exciting and worth keeping.  Oh, she can sleep through the night too!  That’s totally worth mentioning, because the other 2 kiddos were closer to 18 months before we finally saw eye to eye on the whole sleeping at night issue.  She’s done it all by herself.  And she only sleeps in her carrier.  I mention this, because I’m sure there’s some new mom in blogger land who’s fretting over her child never seeing the slats of a real crib.  This one’s for you dear fretting mother!  My kid sleeps in a  carrier and not a crib either and I’m going to keep on doing it until she’s too big or I really see signs of flat head and require a baby helmet to shape it back to normal.  She seems fine to me!

Mikey has informed us what he wants for Christmas already!  The kid just had a birthday last month, but I guess when you become aware of holidays and months and stuff then you start planning early for the next big present receiving celebration!  He has covered our entire house in art work from preschool, primary, and his own original creations.  It was bothering me, but now I just embrace this arts and crafts movement and proudly display his creations.  Well, actually he is well versed in tape dispensing so he tapes his work where ever he wants!  And he somehow knows if I’ve removed piece 217 from his ongoing collection spanning in the six hundreds, so I’ve just given up.  They are pretty cute and I’m sure it won’t last forever so if you’re ever visiting our museum, make sure to check out the train tracks that span all over the house and view the art work, hung appropriately at a preschoolers eye level!

Josh supposedly has asthma and now has a nebulizer and does a breathing treatment every morning and night.  He’s fine in front of the tv, but starts hacking up almost phlegm as soon as he takes off to see who rang the door bell, who moved his train, or what Mikey is doing to tease him from the other room.  We’re trying to get a grasp on things, but it’s hard!  You want your kid to be active, but when they cough till they hurt from doing so, and the only thing that keeps them calm is being stagnant, then you start to wonder and worry.  He’s started defying nap time and I have unfortunately caved in and agreed.  Must do better this week…

Well there’s some little amusing tidbits from our life this week.  That reminds me that I need pineapple since I’m down to 2 cans and the whole talk of produce prices rising  50-90% in the upcoming weeks has me nervous.

Joshy’s Growing Bigger

My brother is getting married Saturday so I’m slowly unloading the camera to the computer 1 month at a time.  Here’s some cute pictures of Josh.  He’s now 20 months old, a few days shy of 21 months and is quite the little demon child.  He’s either really happy or really upset, unfortunately it tends to be the latter of the 2 more often than not.  It reminds me of when he came out shrieking at the top of his lungs and I thought I had just given birth to the spawn of the devil.  I guess I should try and remember the happy times, but since they are few and far between I find it easier not to.  So here’s some happy pics of happy times.

Josh wants to do anything and everything Mikey does.  They can play with Geo Trax for hours at a time.  Josh has even mastered hooking the trains together and building the tracks.

He prefers to drink from a regular cup at meal time and snack time rather than a sippy- yay!

He signs “more” on Sundays when the YM are passing the sacrament and walking down the aisles.  One day when I’m not paying attention I know he’s going to wander off to see if one of them will give him some more bread.

Has a mouthful of teeth, but still a gap on the bottom row for 2 more to come in.

Shrieks at the top of his lungs if something isn’t meeting his expectations or if you took something he wanted.

Has taken a liking to sleeping in our bed.  Last night he cried for an hour in his crib, didn’t want a milk sippy or mommy and daddy hugs.  We put him down on the floor and he walked into our room, turned a laundry basket over to use as a stool, climbed up under the covers and decided to fall asleep on our bed.  Great!!

He loves to press buttons, turn knobs, and get his fingers on everything.  He really likes pressing the button to close the garage door, playing with cell phones, and turning off and on light switches.

Josh is a great helper.  Anything that Josh and Mikey both get Josh loves to have in his hands and then give it to Mikey.  Every night we give loaded toothbrushes to Josh and he then goes and gives one to Mikey.  Josh loves to retreive the laundry baskets and then helps to unload and load the washer and dryer.  He’s also learning how to unload the dishwasher.  I do love this stage where kids love to help with chores.

He insists on sitting on the potty every night before bathtime  and wiping and flushing.  No real action, but he’s excited to try.  Totally think he’ll be trained before Mikey was.  I can rejoice about that.

Loves to go bye-bye and crawls into his stroller if he thinks we should go for a walk.

Loves to play the piano just like his big brother, of course!

Has a fond affection for any stuffed animal, big or key-chain sized small.  He grabs them and kisses them and hugs them while turning side to side.  It’s quite funny to watch.

Gives you a look that can kill- you don’t mess with him when you get that look

Can audibly say: mummy, daddy, ball, cookie, milk,  juice.  He gets what he wants (usually), but has been referred for speech therapy.  Haven’t heard from them yet, but it will be nice when he can communicate with us so we know what he wants.  He’s very selective and random with his sign language too!  Such a unique little kid.

Happy 1st Birthday Joshua

My baby boy is 1 year old!  Grandma and Grandpa N came down to help celebrate.  They bought lots of toys and Grandma made his cake- a great tradition that I don’t mind at all!  She did an M&M cake with cupcakes too!  This family loves M&Ms.

So the Queen of Harts gave us left over birthday cake from her Giggle Girl’s birthday and we gave it to Josh to get used to real finger food.  Yeah, he picked that skill up in no time.  Come his real birthday that kid could down a cupcake faster than anyone!  I think he ate 4 cupcakes that day.  And don’t try and take any cake away from this little Tyke, because he would scream and let you know that taking cake away from a birthday boy was not acceptable!

Josh got a new swing, some sippy cups, clothes, blocks, his own teddy bear, and lots of loves from the family.  Oh yeah, and Uncle B. brought over his gf/ unofficial fiance (since she doesn’t have a ring) for the whole family to meet.  Welcome to the family Heather!  Okay, back to the Birthday boy.  At one he:

bites your shoulder or pizza from your fingers with a pirranah like chomp

drinks from a sippy if you hold it

get into the bathroom drawers and kitchen cupboard to play

puts toys away when he’s done

has 2 bottom teeth and 2 top teeth coming in

weighs only 16 lbs and in the 4th percentile. Quite petite!

is a total mamma’s boy

climbed up 1 stair just once

loves to crawl into the bathroom

hugs stuffed animals

likes to eat sweets

trying hard to pull himself up into standing position, but can only get on his knees

enjoys his exersaucer

giggles like Chunk on Goonies

loves to sit in laundry baskets

still army crawling everywhere he goes

Just Randomness

I need to post, but that means unloading pics to the computer- that takes a while.  I’ll just write what I’ve been up to.

Joshy turned 1… yeah, pictures coming soon!

Go google Diva Cup- brilliant, but I don’t think I could handle that.

I’ve got some unfinished projects crossed off my list- pics coming soon too!

So someone once asked me a while back what I like and what my hobbies were.  I am not the same person I was in hs, that’s for sure.  No exercise, no clubs, no parties, no cultural anything going on.  I seriously couldn’t think of any thing to tell this person besides the “oh I am a mom” answer.  Then finally I came up with clipping coupons and bargain shopping.  And then I realized that I need to get more involved with something, anything, and RS doesn’t count in my book.

Although RS does keep me busy.  I love spreadsheets and keeping track of data like names, addresses, and phone #s.  I also retract my statement about wanting to go to nursery next.  I don’t want to be out of the loop so I hope my next adventure allows me to stay in RS for third hour.  I haven’t heard a thing, but I’ll put in a great word for all you who think it could never be you.  The RS  president is such a great calling.  I think you’d do well at it =o)  Or maybe we’ll just continue to run the show for a few more months.

My 3 year old asked me to stand up so he could put pillows around where I was sitting on the couch to make me a pillow bed.  I chose to keep typing away on my laptop and he then asked me why I wasn’t obeying!!

Some day my kiddo will be potty trained.  It really doesn’t bother me to keep changing his diaper.

I did the coolest FHE tonight.  We toured the church bldg with some other families in the ward and some investigators.  Talk about so cool!  I think this idea will stick.

I had a free $10 coupon to Wags that expired today.  I bought diapers and a few other things.

Morning Moos is at Costco for a really good price right now.

I’m pretty sure I’m getting neighbors.  And they will be in my ward.  And they don’t have any kids.  But they are the grandparents to someone in my ward.  Hope that means they will be my pseudo grandparents as well =o)

I think my weakness is Reeses anything!  PB and chocolate is a perfect combo.

I used to watch Big Love.  Then it got too raunchy so we canceled cable so I couldn’t and wouldn’t be tempted.  So far so good.

My only sibling, my younger brother, is getting married in November.  It’s so, like, whatever, since  it’s not my own wedding.  Been there done that so we’ll just show up to yours bro and eat the food and smile for family pics.

I enjoy making to do lists.

I don’t know the last show I watched on tv. We’ve really gotten used to not watching it and don’t even think to turn it on anymore.  It’s great!

I’m looking out for a good deal on lawn chairs.  Just those simple plastic white chairs to go in the backyard.  Keep an eye out for me.

I’m tired now and need to go to sleep since baby still gets up in the night multiple times.

Precious Moments

Lately Joshy has been sleeping in until about 9am every morning.  Mike brings him to me at 6:30am and then he snuggles next to me on my arm and falls asleep.  I just look at this little guy and all his cute little features and I am amazed!  I can’t complain for being able to sleep in more than normal and have a great reason for not getting things done like laundry and dishes and bathrooms, right?

It’s Been 10 Months Since I Had This Kid

Well little Joshy is finally making the transition to being a mobile little guy.  He isn’t crawling, but he sure can scoot on his tummy and pull himself along the kitchen floor at a quick pace. Here’s what he’s been doing lately:

-Sits up for an extented time (you have to sit him up) and then falls back and rolls on his tummy to start “pull crawling”

- Has 2 bottom teeth and more on the way

- Wears size 3 diapers

- Has discovered pb+j sandwich crusts under the kitchen table and tries his best to eat them

-Crunched a Cheerio in half, but just drools out the pieces

- Loves to be in the middle of whatever Mikey is playing with, usually leaving Mikey begging me to pick Josh up and hold him away from all the toys

- Got a haircut at Grandma N’s and looks completely different.

- Wakes 2 times a night and it’s taking a toll on me!

- Likes to type on the laptop

- Grabs for glasses and cheeks, sometimes hair

- Enjoys rolling to the toy bins, pulling things out, and kicking at whatever he can get his feet on

-Went ice fishing and did really well to sleep the whole time

-Can click and unclick ink pens

-Plays with door stops

- Happy disposition and will let anyone hold him, unless he’s hungry and I’m close by =o)

It’s Been 9 Months Since I Had This Kid…

Lots of pictures taken, but the poor little guy has maybe 3 pictures actually hanging up in the house.  Oh the sad sad life of the 2nd child!  So we had our first experience with really sick kids.  Josh gave it to Mikey and between the 2 kiddos I think we’ve been experiencing sleepless nights (more than normal) for 3 weeks.  We are getting better.  Little Josh’s milestones:

-weighs 17 pounds and a few ounces (they don’t check the other stuff during a sick visit to the doc

- loves to jump when you hold him up on his feet

- still not pushing up, crawling, or sitting up without support (doc says he might be one of those who just goes straight to walking)

- wears size 3 or 4 (depending on brand) diapers

- says mama and yeah yeah

-started breathing treatments while sick

- has become attached to holding and biting real cell phones (let the fun begin)

- had 2 little bottom teeth pop through finally

-likes to eat and then have his diaper changed

-rolls all over the carpet and he’s pretty fast

-kicks the walls non stop

-slaps the kitchen floor with both hands while on his stomach

-love to put his hands all over Mikey and whatever Mikey is doing

It’s Been 4 Months Since I Had This Kid…

Time is flying and I am so happy! I think the newness of having a newborn has finally worn off and we are slowly transitioning into the infant stage. He’s getting bigger and able to do more and he’s just such a little cutie pie! Here’s some cool milestones that will eventually make it into that scrapbook I keep putting off:

- 14 lbs

-24 3/4 inches long

- smiles and giggles (Mikey was the first one to get him to laugh)

- wears size 2 diapers

- rolls from his back to side, but not quite to his stomach, yet!

- grabs dangling toys and tries to eat them

- grabs hair and gently pulls

- likes to eat his toes, fingers, blanket, anything he can grab!!

- is entertained by Mikey playing with toys

- let’s out a high pitched squeal when you pick him up and he’s happy- it’s loud!!

- isn’t afraid of Mikey and all the hugs and kisses he has to offer

- takes naps in his crib (finally), but prefers the car seat for most of the night

- rubbed out most of his hair; he has a Donald Trump comb over on top and a little bit of fuzz on the sides

- is overall a happy healthy baby who we just love to show off!

I’m So Excited!

Guess who slept through the night last night???  Mommy AND baby!!

So we finally got home and to bed about 9:30ish last night and when I was awakened by dear little baby there was light in the room.  I looked over at the alarm clock and it was 6am.  I had to think for a while, but when I came to my senses I realized that I was not up feeding baby at 1:30am like normal.  Can I just tell you how excited I was??  So now the tricky part is to figure out if this is a fluke or a result of my “milk free” diet my friend Patty told me to try for a week.  Hey, if giving up milk for a full night’s sleep is the trade then I think I can handle the deal.  Josh is already less gassy, hardly congested, sleeping longer at naps, and seems happier.  It’s only been 2 days though!  I really hope it’s the no milk thing, because if I’m giving up my block cheese and milk on my many bowls of cereal for nothing than I am really bummed!  Who votes that it’s the lack of milk that’s making my baby wonderful??
