Smith’s Great Sale 2/2- 2/8

I got all this (100 items including the shrimp ring) for $71 OOP (out of pocket).  I’ve learned the sale cycles so I buy items when they are at their lowest price AND I do a clip-less coupon approach.  It’s easy, saves time AND more importantly it saves money!

I’m hosting a FREE Grocery Smarts class in my home at the end of February AND I’m feeding you!  What more could you want?  (I also have a toy room if you need to bring your little ones).

This trip I got charcoal for $2, bagged cheese for $2 a lb, sliced cheese for 49 cents, hot dogs for 39 cents, baby lotions for $1.50, and lots more!

In the past I’ve gotten jumbo packs of diapers for $2.50, salsa for 9 cents a jar,  tortillas for 10 cents, canned veggies for less than 30 cents each, packs of dishwasher tabs for less than $1 a box,  cases of bottled water for $1.79, hummus for FREE, cool whip for FREE, bags of shredded cheese for FREE, toothpaste and toothbrushes for FREE, deodorant for 25 cents, RoTel for 16 cents a jar, a box of copy paper for $5 (normally $50), a Sonicare electric toothbrush for $9 (regularly $49), and an entire pantry, freezer, and bathroom stocked up with items my family uses.  Oh, and I NEVER pay more than a $1 for a box of cereal (Kashi, Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Trix, or any kind)!

You too can learn the best deals and when to stock up on the items you use most.  Let me know if you or anyone you know is interested and I’ll get you the info.

Cheers to a New Year!

2009 was a good year, but it’s always nice to have a restart to all the things I didn’t finish, lose, start, or accomplish.

I started off last year with attempting to really clean the house 1 room at a time.  I did start, but didn’t finish.  This year I think I’ll try that again.  I’ve already sorted through all the boys’ clothes and managed to fill 5 Space Bags and 1 under the bed storage bin with any and all clothes related to newborn- 5T sizes.  Next up are their toys- yikes!

And after watching the movie Julie and Julia and can’t help but be inspired to give new cooking a try!  From new recipes to just making more homemade foods more frequently, I just want to do more in the kitchen.  Using the crockpot or sunoven for Sunday for lunch/ dinner is also something I want to do to.  1 crockpot Sunday meal down, like 50 more to go!

Groceries and shopping- think I’ll try the cash method this year.  Well, I’ve already charged a bunch, so maybe we’ll just stick to spending no more than $50 a week.  That means no going overbored when diapers at TRU go down to $1.50 a jumbo pack and I want to buy the whole display in every size possible!  Restraint girl, I’m going to have restraining power during my super shopping trips.  I’m also going to keep up on my coupons!  When they come Sunday I will look though and clip the ones I won’t use.  That way I can send more than I am now to the Expired Coupon Queen in Colorado.  She sends them to overseas military bases where expired (and unexpired) coupons can be used.  I really slack when it comes to clipping my coupons on time and keeping them up to date.  This shall help me be even more efficient.

Of course there’s always excercise more.  I don’t want a gym membership to Gold’s since they are walking distance, have a pool, and kid’s club, but have obstructed my view of downtown.  I just  want to get out of the house more with the kids and go for walks or trike rides.   Maybe we could even start walking to the close stores by our house.

Me time- at least once a month I’m getting a sitter during the day (you should see how many babysitting bucks I’ve racked up) and going and doing something alone!  Shopping, pedi, haircut, whatever! Just kid free is the way to be.

Date time- maybe I should just plan what the heck hubby and I should do and take matters into my own hands as far as the execution.  Attend the temple at least once a month, go see a movie, go out to eat…  Friday date night swaps anyone?  I’m serious!

Crafts- if they get started then they have to get finished!  That’s all there is to it!  I have 2 pillow cases, 1 layered skirt, 1 truck pillow, a big mending pile built up again, and some cards and scrapbooking things that need to get done.  There’s some magnets, Gospel ABC books, nursery CDs, and felt puppets still waiting for my time and energy too.

So that’s the big stuff.  Nothing too big or small.  Nothing that can’t really be accomplished realistically.  I’m feeling good in 2010 and I’m hoping to make it a great year.

Oh yeah! And actually plant something in my garden boxes this year rather than have them be the kids’ favorite dirt piles for digging and such!

Mikey’s Oatmeal Coupon

Mikey just brought me a creation made with legos.  What a happy moment- he told me it was a spinning coupon machine and that I should pull the $1 off coupon from it.  “It’s a $1.00 off oatmeal coupon to use to help Daddy’s shingles go away!” he proudly exclaimed.

“And here comes a $1.00 off yogurt coupon.  And here’s an automatic tickle machine coupon coming too!”

What a proud mom I am.  My kiddo pretends to shop with coupons and won’t buy if it’s expensive or he doesn’t have a coupon.  And when his imagination and legos combine he creates me my own coupon generator for products I like.  Sounds like a keeper to me, the kiddo and the coupon machine =o)

Kick Butt Alby’s Deals

The Great Albertson's Deal
The Great Albertson’s Deal

I was so excited for my purchases at Albertson’s today that I couldn’t wait to get the groceries in the house- I unbagged them in the trunk so I could take a picture!  I made it with 2 kids along for the ride.

I spent $40 and some change on all this!  I got those ice creams and the 3 Muskateers in the clearance section for $1, but they ended up being free with my last transaction, because I used a $10 off catalina.

Want to learn more and how and the ins and outs?  Go read about the “special list” that tells you what’s on sale and lets you print off coupons to save even more money HERE

I separated my groceries into 6 groups of 10 items to get the most bang for my buck.  I separated my coupons with a paper clip based on these 6 groups.  So coupons for transaction #1 were paper clipped together.  Coupons for transaction #2 were paper clipped together in their own little group.  Etc. Etc.

So, 10 items (all the same price for this buy 10 item sale to work) in group #1 were rung up by the very friendly teller.  I then hand her over coupons for only those items… easy to do b/c they were paper clipped together.  Yay, money from coupons starts coming off.  Pay her and out pops a catalina (coupon from the store you get at the register after paying) for $10 off my next purchase.

Well, next group of 10 items are rung up.  I hand over coupons (paper clipped together) and $ is deducted.  Then, I hand over that $10 off catalina coupon from my previous purchase and BAM -$10 off my total.  I think I spent $2.50 on this transaction.  Well, out pops another catalina for $10 off my next purchase.  Are you catching on?

Ring up next group of 10 items. Hand over coupons and watch my total go down.  Hand over catalina from previous purchase and BAM, another $10 dollars comes off!  Out pops another catalina for $10 off my next purchase.

Lather, rinse, repeat.  My last transaction didn’t have  items from the sale going on (purchase 10 select items get $10 off your next order), but they were free since I used the catalina from the previous purchase to knock $10 bucks off.  My last transaction was 10 bucks exactly, handed over catalina, no money owed!!

Are you with me?  I love this stuff.  And yay for free and super cheap comfort foods to help stock up the 3 month supply of foods my family will eat!

I did make a few mistakes- I am human!  I was supposed to use some Alby’s coupons and manufacturer coupons for double deals and get some free paper towels, but I sort of didn’t think things through in time to make it work.  Oh well!  My motto is: you gotta leave room for improvement =o)  Okay, one more look at the goods!

JEFF BEZOS

I bought diapers last week for $19.99 (a big box) and this week they are on sale even more.  I took in my reciept and they would not give me the difference.  Grrrrrr.  They went through 3 people/ managers to tell me they do not do that.  On top of that, they don’t take manufacturer coupons- double Grrrrrr!  Ok, rant over for now!

Target Deals

Target Deals

Target Deals

This post is overdue, but it did happen in January =o)  If you don’t know, I love coupons.  They save me mucho dinero when I combine coupons with sales!

Today’s lesson: clip coupons for brands you don’t usually buy. Why?  You can get lots of stuff FREE that are perfect for that 72 hour kit that’s disassembled all over this house! And FREE stuff is good for gifts or mother’s survival baskets for VTers and things like that!

I spent $20 bucks (it should have only been $15 bucks, but lesson learned) and some change and got all this at Target.  $1.00 coupons are great for trial sized items and clearance items, because they end up being free!

Overage= the Airwick things were on clearance for $4.24.  I had a coupon for $5.00 off an Airwick thing, so I had $$ left over to use towards something else!  Cool huh?  I had overage on the batteries, Downy, Tide, and the airfresheners.  It helped lower the price of the paper towels which were needed for my year supply of non food items.

Lessons learned: watch cashier as they scan- I had 2 $5 off coupons for the Airwick air fresheners and she only scanned 1 coupon!  I really like Costco brand toilet paper and paper towels, because they are individually wrapped and thick quality.  I wish I didn’t get the paper towels from Target now =o(

Okay, more lessons later! I don’t remember how many coupons I used, or my $$ saved because of coupons, but couponing is not really about how much you save…. it’s about how much you spend!

Point for Hubby’s Team

She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed Sent Me!
She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed Sent Me!

I sent hubby out the door with coupons and a small list.  I’m so pleased with his purchase!  Check out these cute little first aid kits that were FREE after coupons at CVS.  Good job hubby!  He’s slowly becoming a coupon crazed shopper like me =o)  Or maybe he just abides by my wishes to never leave home without coupons!

And Kmart is doubling coupons up to $2.00 this week. I’ll have to organize my coupons to see what I can get for super cheap.

Has anyone gone to a free Smart Shopper class offered where they teach you more about shopping with coupons?  I’m interested in what it’s all about and want more info.

This Week’s Deals!

Weekly deals- Nov 2
Weekly deals- Nov 2

I’m celebrating the presidential defeat/ victory (depending on your outlook) today by shopping!  Check out my deals at Smith’s!  They are having one of those buy 10 items and save sales.  Throw in some coupons like I did and I got everything for $6 bucks and got free razors and free toothpaste!  Even though I don’t really need the free things someone out there does- so it’s a great way to help charities or families in need and it doesn’t cost a cent!!  And now I’m home and the kiddos are both sleeping =o)

And if you’re not afraid of generic diapers then check out HERE to get the scoop on the amazing sale at Walgreens!!  Seriously it’s like buying 1 pack of jumbo Walgreens brand diapers (all sizes) and getting 3 free when you combine sale and coupon.  I’ve been to 4 Walgreens stores and stocked up.  The store and Craig and MLK has the red pharmacy coupon book sitting out for you to take at the “customer consultation” station.  So grab your coupon book from there, go to the diaper aisle and get 4 packs (limit 4), go to check out to ring up the diapers first, then hold the coupon book out for the clerk to scan the diaper coupon (it takes $2 off each package).  It’s like getting a pack of diapers for $2.50.  Can’t go wrong!  If you’re leary about diaper leakage, then use generics during the day and name brand at night.

No more shopping this week, b/c I want to stay within budget this month, I am notorious for going broke on good deals, and it’s only the first part of the month so I want to save for deals later on.

Thanks Thrifymama for the info about these great deals!

A Smile on My Face

So the morning got off to a rough start, but hubby made it to his morning mtg, we got out the door by 11 and now my kiddos are both sleeping soundly so I can read blogs!

We went to a Fresh and Easy grand opening and used our $5 off a $20 purchase to buy baby food and we got a free cloth grocery bag too! Some day my kiddos will be out of diapers so I won’t need plastic grocery bags to dispose of their poopy diapers!! But hey, I won’t turn down a free tote bag.

I found clearance diapers at Walgreens next which always makes me happy. I also used 1 or 2 coupons on each item I bought from there (yay for coupons).

And we found our missing trashcan being used by the neighbors 3 doors down. It blew away in the wind on Saturday, but I got up the courage to walk down there and carry it back to our house!!

And the kids have been sleeping calmly for like 2 hours already! Anyone else having a great day?
